This is our newest one in our family. Gero out of Galant/Baska last litter. He is just now starting to come in to his own and he is a monster. He is about 8 months old in this picture.

Galant Production

Postby AzGSDowner on Sun Aug 05, 2007 8:05 pm

Doubtless there are those who have more to offer re. Galant's production, but I will contribute a bit and ask a question or two to try to get the conversation started.

I own a Galant/Arsenoe male now almost two years old. Arsenoe is a Cak Pisecna boure/Nathali La Grua daughter. Konan (call name, Tas, aka "The Beast from the East") is a very lean and athletic 70 pounds. He has good nerves and adapts easily to new surroundings. Drive for his toy is over the top -- like a 70 pound cat that can do mach 2, and he has pronounced natural search, prey and retreive drive. Along with all that he can sometimes be stubborn and definitely has a bit of an attitude.
Tas has not been agitated and so has never been pushed into a real defensive posture, but in prey drive he is very aggressive. He has on a couple occasions responded with some aggression to a correction that had to be repeated. My read on this is that it is mostly frustration, rather than a rank issue, as I've never seen any other behavior to suggest otherwise.

Now for a few questions. Galant's SVV 3 scores and the posted comments about him suggest that he might have some, shall we say, personality quirks, that limit his ability to gain top points. Can anybody correct or confirm this. Can anybody say how many breedings Galant has had. He is now about six years old and there might be enough of hs kids to begin to form an opinion of him as a producer. I've also wondered if Joseph and Taunya plan to use any of his kids in their breeding program.

Regards

Galant son...my Cerro

Postby bryan75002 on Mon Aug 13, 2007 10:08 pm

I too was wondering how many connoisseurs of fine Czech GSD's out there currently or in the past have Galant z Pohranicni straze progeny? What dominate traits do you see in your dog? Have you achieved titles on your dog?

My Cerro Smrtihlav is now 16 months old sable male and has been with me for 8 months now. He is Solvakia / Czech lines...out of Galant and Daja Cierna vdova. http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/ped ... 97999.html

I had two DDR working line GSD's in the past...one was a SchIII DDR import. When I received Cerro I was absolutely in shock. Cerro is significantly more powerful with profoundly high drives...ball drive is out of this world. Just playing with him...I have to be very careful that he does not injure himself...he is wide open...full blast. He destroyed my backyard the first week...including patio furniture, waterfall, and my wife's plants (this is meant to be humorous...I was waiting for my dog kennel to be delivered...big mistake).

First, I guess Cerro's best trait is his bitework...he is a natural. Most of the positive attention in my club has been about Cerro's bitework. Cerro is a hard biting dog. Physically he is extremely strong...at play and in the house..."like a bull in the china cabinet".

Second, Cerro is highly motivated in tracking...nose is always down and deep...he really enjoys tracking.

Third, Obedience...he is a fast learner and eager to please. This is MY weak area.

There has been some "sharpness" which I am working out for his BH...much improved now. By sharpness I mean he was going through a phase where he was starting to become a bully. For the most part this is under control now.

My Galant gal arrived at 3 months old. She has drive over the top, wants to work constantly, and does not care if she works for me as long as she is working. WORK being the imperative word. She has torn the front of my deck apart piece by piece. As she tore off a piece of latice she would paraded around with it until the entire front needed replaced.
Very high prey drive. At 10 months old she could have certified as a cadaver dog in search and rescue but was too young. Minimum, age 18 months old.
At 21 months old she certified under The International Police Work Dog Association. Now, we are screening her for homeand security.Urban SAR work. I have just started training her in Schutzhund.

She is tough!! I am way too soft on her. She will take a very hard correction and come right back with out blinking. She never runs out of energy. I love her with all my heart. I hope she will be a productive member of my unit.

I am most impressed by the consistency that he produces..

Postby dmcdonnell on Tue Aug 21, 2007 11:44 am

As taunya & Josef's webmaster, I see all testimonials and comments that people have made, and it seems to me that no matter which female he is bred to, his consistency in what he produces is very high.. If I had to assign a number to it, I would say its between 85%-90%. There are certainly those dogs that become pets and some whose drives are not as great as others, but on the whole, I see his progeny as being extremely consistent..

I have a Galant daugther from Clara od Natalky. She is a powerful female that turns heads on and off the field. She had been trained for personal protection and police work. She is trained on 3 scents and human tracking, she has no problem biting whatever - barrel, hidden, leg, body suit, or skin. Yet she is calm enough and clear in the head to be around children, small pets and in a nursing home. She is not handler aggressive but can be hard headed at times. here are only a couple pictures of her

As far as off spring we have one litter on the ground and one coming . From eight puppies she produced were all balanced, well ball and prey driven. 6 went to working /sport homes and two went to pets, We had no problems with ears or testies.

We have kept one back for our selves and she has not fear of doing real life agility, has a super nose and is finding two scents, has huge ball and prey drive and loves to tug. has no isssues with sight or sounds. I could not ask for more from one of her pups. photo of Galant's grand daughter

I am very happy with my female.

natural bite work

Postby k9sar on Wed Oct 17, 2007 1:54 am

My Katrina /galant gal has just started doing sch. training about 2 months ago. As others have stated "natural with full bite". You can see her videos on youtube under Katrina z. Eurosportu. We are traininig with Jim Hill.
They could not believe she had no sleeve experience prior to 2 months ago. Check out her learning to do a hold and bark.
Galant seems to produce an over the top work ethic.

Galant Daughter

Postby gillasgirl on Tue Nov 06, 2007 11:34 pm

I have Galant / Quandra Policia! She is very strong in tracking, flawless obedience, great nerve, great with young children and horses. We did have to spay her due to severe skin problems, but I wouldn't trade her for the world!

I have a Galant grand-daugther - from a Galant / Clara od Natalky daughter - Ajka Drevopal "Zuza". She is from Vom Dart Haus Shepherds and the sire is Rocco Von Turbo.
"Keara" is only 3 months old but has a strong drive and great devotion. If I do my part, she will be terrific!

Galant progeny

Postby AC_Bond on Mon Jan 14, 2008 7:48 pm

I was glad to discover this forum because I have been wanting to compare notes for a long time with other owners of Galant progegeny.

Mine is now 3 years old. I've been through so many extremes with this dog. I had to learn a whole new set of skills in order to handle him. I've owned good GSDs before, but never one of these super high-drive types.
It was bewildering in the beginning, but today it's smooth sailing.

He comes from Galant x Lola. Everyone knows about Galant, and I hear Lola was a fiery dog, not for beginners. Hogan was the name my dog came with and Bond is his call name today.

What he's developed into is a compact version of Galant, only darker. He has a compact, boxy kind of build, kind of low to the ground and not too heavy. He's around 70 pounds today, and I really don't know if he'll thicken up some in the years to come. I think probably yes, since he's been real slow to mature thus far. No one around here has ever seen a dog like him and many don't even know he's a german shepherd, because they've never seen black sable.

What I like about him is he's real aggressive. Aggressive, and extremely protective. He's had a little bite work, nothing too serious because I don't really rely on him for protection......just to warn me of anything going on in the night and to discourage criminals.

Another thing I really love is the fact that he's not everybody's friend. He recieves petting, but he doesn't like it unless it's from me or someone he sees alot. Most people are nervous around him, and some are downright terrified. He doesn't have any bad intentions toward anyone, but he has this no-nonsense way of carrying himself and a look in his eyes that gets people's attention. Anyway, the thing I love most is how he defends the house at night with a vengeance. Never seen a dog with a roar for a bark , and so hyper-vigilant. I sleep great knowing nothing escapes his notice.

I'd love to hear from anyone else wo owns one of these.

AC

Owning this dog is one of the best experiences I've ever had. I'd like to hear about other's experiences.
